Well, it's not all doom and gloom, despite recession, there are some good signs in the business sector of the economy. That is the message of this spot directed by Samuel&Gunnar for Truenorth and Hvíta Húsið.
Ólafur Arnalds wrote and produced the music:
To be honest, the decision to start using Twitter was never a business decision. I did it because it is fun. I'm a social guy, and I like people. Through the years I've had some very enjoyable interactions with people involved in music and tech, and just interesting people in general.
Yesterday I got a package from a Twitter friend, who I have never met in person, hand-delivered from the UK by his friends who were here in Iceland on vacation. It was said to contain essential studio tools. And did it ever.
Trust me, when you are making music under the pressure of almost impossible deadlines, sometimes you hit a wall. The song doesn't work. But in the year 2000, a cure for this was found.
And now, in 2013 we finally have a perfect production studio, complete with everything you need to make great music. No excuses. And it's all thanks to Twitter. And Budley :-)
More cowbells to you all,
One of Iceland's biggest banks, Íslandsbanki, recently refunded around 20.000 of its customers 30% of the interest payments made on mortgages and general debt over the course of 2012. Good news, as we are sure you will agree.
For the ad, Arnar did a choral version of a song called 'We can work it out' by a little known quartet from Liverpool, with the help of some lovely female singers. And here is the result:
Here is somelovely new music for you:
Breaking a long silence, Leaves released a new single today, the first from an upcoming (rather great) album. For those of you that do not know, Medialux Artist Arnar fronts the band. Lovely piece of rock, as we're sure you will agree. 'The Sensualist':
Now, Eberg is working on his fourth solo album. Here is a song that promises that we have something to look forward to, here is 'Long Since I Have Felt This Good':
Last but not least, Toggi breaks the silence since the release of Wonderful Secrets, and records a new track with Bjarki. In his own words: 'For those waiting for some new music from yours truly, here's a cover I did of a song by Kiss the Coyote from their self-titled debut album .:Listen to it here:.My drummer, Grímsi (who fronts Kiss the Coyote) wrote this song and I provided the lyrics. I love the song, so I had to do my own version of it. It's available for download, completely free. Hope you like it.'
Here is 'As Good As It Can Get':
Let's take a quick look around Don Pedro's studio, which also happens to be the Global HQ of Medialux. It's situated in the old fish-packing district of the Reykjavík harbor, close to the ocean and with a great view of the city, in a building that houses several other music and post studios, and the best coffee machine the world has to offer.
They say a picture says more than a 1000 words, so these pics should be worth around 12.000 words:
